Summer is here and the heat is on! But there’s more to it than just an AC service.

There are numerous things you can do in order to make sure your cooling system will be ready now that the summer season has hit.

Here are five quick and simple tips that will help you get your AC up to par for the heat ahead.

1. Change the air filter

It’s important to change your AC filters every 30 days or so. If you have allergies, you may want to change them more often (every 15-20 days). Filters trap pollen and dust particles that can be bad for your health if they reach your lungs.

2. Keep the AC unit clear of debris

One easy thing you can do is to keep your AC compressor area clear of debris.

3. Get your AC inspected

It’s also a good idea to have your AC inspected by a professional at least twice a year. There are many signs that could indicate there is a problem with your unit.

4. Inspect your air conditioner’s seals

Just like you wouldn’t want a broken seal on a vacuum container, you don’t want one on your AC unit either. This will allow dust and dirt to get into the system which can affect performance.

5. Clean the fins of the compressor

At least once a year, clean the fins of the AC compressor. There will be a buildup of dirt and dust on them so you’ll want to remove as much as you can using a simple vacuum cleaner attachment.

Making sure your air conditioner is properly maintained in order to perform at its peak this summer will help you and your family beat the heat.
