Summer is here, and it is important that you have a good heat pump in place to keep you cool over the next few months. If your heat pump is not up to the task of keeping you cool this summer, you should have it replaced right away. It’s important that you be able to recognize the signs that your heat pump needs to be replaced. You don’t want it dying on you in the middle of the summer, after all. Let’s take a look at some of the signs that you may need a new heat pump.

Declining Efficiency

Older heat pumps have more wear and tear on the various parts of their systems, which means that they will be less efficient than newer systems. The more worn out the system gets, the longer it has to stay on in order to compensate for the loss of efficiency. This will cause your monthly bills to rise. If notice that your bills are going up for no apparent reason, you may need a new heat pump.

Rising Repairs

The rising wear and tear on the system will eventually go beyond declining efficiency. Parts will eventually start failing in groups, causing the cost of repairs to spike. If you need to have your heat pump repaired more than once a year, you may need a new one.

Age

Heat pumps are manufactured to last between 15 and 20 years. If your heat pump is older than a decade, you should consult with a professional about whether or not you need a new one. It’s more cost effective to install a new system now than to constantly repair an old one.
