FAQ

What is Short Cycling?

Short cycling is a behavior in which your air conditioner turns itself on and off every few minutes, instead of completing an entire cooling cycle. This locks the air conditioner into the most stressful part of its operation cycle: the start-up phase. Not only does this prevent your air conditioner from adequately cooling your home, but it also substantially increases the chance of a complete breakdown.

What Causes Port Charlotte Short Cycling?

There are a couple of different causes for Port Charlotte short cycling. The first possible cause is a malfunctioning thermostat. The thermostat is the brain of the Port Charlotte air conditioning system, and if it starts to experience problems it can transmit conflicting signals to the Port Charlotte air conditioner.

The second possible cause of short cycling in your Port Charlotte air conditioner is a damaged compressor. The compressor is a part responsible for circulating refrigerant through your Port Charlotte air conditioning system. This means that the compressor sets the rhythm of the system while it is operating. If the compressor is faulty or damaged, it can throw off that rhythm and cause the system to short cycle. The exact cause, of course, will have to be determined by a professional.
