Air conditioners can last quite a while, provided you take proper care of them. However, every air conditioner has its limits. At some point, your air conditioner will wear down to the point where you will need to replace it. When that happens, you want to be able to recognize the signs as soon as possible so you can have a new system installed. You don’t want your air conditioner to suddenly die on you in the middle of the hottest time of the year, after all. Let’s take a look at some of the signs that you may need a new air conditioner.

Age

Most air conditioners are manufactured to last around 20 years. Once they get older than that, they start to develop all kinds of problems and become increasingly more expensive to maintain. Older systems are also eventually passed up by innovations in air conditioning technology, making them both expensive and obsolete. So, if your air conditioner is older than two decades, it’s probably a good idea to talk to a professional about replacing it.

Efficiency

The older your air conditioner gets, the more worn out it gets. The more worn out it gets, the more its efficiency will drop. This will cause it to have to stay on for longer periods of time, in order to compensate for the lost efficiency. Eventually, you will start to notice this reflected in your monthly bills. If your costs are going up for no apparent reason, you may need a new air conditioner.

Repairs

Air conditioning systems don’t need repairs that often—maybe a handful of times throughout their lives. Most of those times are going to come at the end of a system’s life, though. The more a system wears down, the more often parts are going to break down. If you need to repair your air conditioner every few months, it’s time for a new one.

Cliffs Air Conditioning and Heating, Inc. offers air conditioner repair services throughout Port Charlotte, FL.
